Product Review of the Miracle Blanket
By LuAnn Kennedy
Do you know how to swaddle your baby? If you don't, the Miracle Blanket is a must-have. And if you do, swaddling is a piece of cake with this excellent baby swaddle blanket.
The Miracle Blanket is a swaddle blanket made of cotton. It breathes, but keeps your baby warm at the same time. Arm flaps are another valuable feature. Folding them over your baby's arms keeps baby from scratching his soft skin with rambunctious hands and fingernails. The blanket also includes a pocket for baby's feet. However, the baby can still move his legs and feet while swaddled. The pocket just keeps them warm and somewhat straight, which aids in hip, joint, and muscle development.
The Miracle Blanket is a swaddle blanket that can be used until a baby is at least 4 months old. Newborns like it, because it makes them feel warm and safe. Older infants enjoy it, because it helps them sleep better. Using the Miracle Blanket can even help with colic! This is because wrapping the blanket snugly around the baby's belly relieves gas pain, reduces fussiness, and helps babies sleep on their backs--the recommended sleeping position for infants.
The Miracle Blanket is custom-made for swaddling. It's not a rectangular or square blanket. Instead, it's cut on an angle, allowing you to wrap it from the baby's shoulders down. This prevents suffocation, because there's no extra material to come up over the baby's face.
I bought the Miracle Blanket shortly before my baby was born. I ended up with a baby who doesn't like his arms confined in a swaddle. But I still use the Miracle Blanket to keep him warm and wrap one arm. This way, he still has one hand free. I noticed that he wakes himself more frequently when he moves in his sleep, but isn't swaddled. However, when he's wrapped in the Miracle Blanket, he sleeps much better, and random movements don't wake him as often.
Even though the Miracle Blanket is meant for swaddling, it also makes nursing easier. When you nurse with your baby swaddled, he or she can't move around as much. This keeps the baby focused on nursing, and also prevents frustration when the baby is overly hungry.
The only drawback to the Miracle Blanket is its price. As of April 2007 it sells for $29.95. That's a rather large investment for a cotton blanket. However, the benefits are worth it, once your baby is used to being swaddled in the Miracle Blanket.
